Fertilizing System
Using the laws of nature, the EarthBox uses the movement of nutrients from soil that has a high concentration of fertilizer to areas of low concentration of fertilizer. When you set up the EarthBox®, the fertilizer is put at the top of the potting mix hereby giving you a section of high fertilizer concentration. When you plant your seedlings all the potting mix at the bottom (which is where the young roots are) does not have any fertilizer. But as you add water and your plants grow the moist potting mix slowly gets the diluted nutrients down the Roots as the plant matures and is need of the fertilizer which is why you only need to add the one bag of fertilizer the whole growing season.
Water, Mulch and Fertilizer Conservation
The EarthBox's plastic cover does four things.
1) Reduces the amount the soil will dry out and as the soil heats up and creates moisture vapor it returns it to the soil. So less water is needed.
2) The Mulch Cover acts as a for of muclch to that you do not have any weeds that are competing with your plants.
3) Because the Cover keeps out rain water. It is able to keep the fertilizer from being washed away and it is all used on the plant to give you a large and healthy crop.
Plants use the water from the reservoir, they use only what they need so you cannot over water them, once the reservoir is full all overflow is drained out of the over flow hole. So you just need to keep it filled.
4) The Plastic Cover also keeps out Plant Eating Pest and keep down the growth of disease-causing mold.
Plus as a bonus...
* Research has been done to help you determine the exact placement and number of plants according to type and location of the fertilizer. So there is no guess work on your part just follow the simple directions for that perfect crop.
* With the use of the Casters this will allow you to move the EarthBox to the optimal location either inside or outside. To extend your growing season place it outside in the sun during the day and inside or a protected area at night this will allow you to plant earlier and harvesting later. You can also move the EarthBox® around the deck or patio to increase / decrease the amount of time spent in the sun or shade. By putting it inside next to a window on the South Side of your home it will act as a Indoor Greenhouse.
* Soil or potting mix will need to be purchased separately.
